Using equations to find the length or width of a rectangle when given the perimeter or area

Answer

L = length, W = width

We are given:  L = 4W,     L + W = 22

Using substitution:  4W + W = 22
                       ⇒   5W = 22
                       ⇒   W = 22/5 = 4.4cm,  L = 4W =88/5 = 17.6cm
