Add 23 and 88. To do that ask Yourself "what's 3+8" considering the fact that 3 is in 23 and 8 is in 88. If 3+8 is 11 then you would carry your 1 over the 2 in 23. Then you would think to yourself "what's 1+2" since you had to carry your 1. Finally add whatever 2+1 is + 8. It should look something like the picture.
