First, you try to get your variable on one side, meanwhile getting everything else on the other side of the = sign. By doing do, you add 8 on both sides, making the equation w+22=0.

Next, you would subtract w from both sides making the equation 22=-w. Now you can't leave your variable (w) with a negative, therefore you divide both sides by -1. (The one is from the imaginary 1 in front of the w.)
