Answer

Our trip to the poultry farm was a real treat. The owners gave us thorough explanation of how they feed and care for the birds. I was surprised at how elaborate the feeding process was.

The farmers shred leftovers from their dinner and mix it with corn and other seeds. Getting a chiken or duck to grow up healthy is not easy to accomplish. It's a lot of hard work, and doesn't usually make the farmer wealthy. Our host explained that the pulse of his job is like being on a teeter totter. The rapid economics changes in prices make life really interesting, he said. Before we left, he gave each of us a catalog listing all the products he offers for sale from eggs to baby chicks to Thanksgiving turkeys.
