Answer

  • Plants are called producers because they produce their own food! They do this by using light energy from the Sun, carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to produce food - in the form of glucouse/sugar. The process is called photosynthesis.

 

  • Producers can produce their own food: these are the green plants of ecosystem.     
  • Chlorophyll allows the plants to trap solar energy and convert it into chemical energy. In the whole ecosystem only green plants can do that. Food produced by plants are taken up by primary consumers. Secondary consumers derive nutrition from primary consumers, and so on.
